The Faculty of Law and Social Sciences is part of the Ganesha University of Education and began in 1957 with the B-I Commerce Course and in 1968 became the Department of Economic Education. The naming of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (FHIS) has historically changed several times, from its inception to the present. FHIS in its historical context cannot be separated from the history of Undiksha which has existed since 1957. The existence of this faculty cannot be separated from the history of the need for teachers in Indonesia. Starting with the establishment of the B-1 Business education course program in 1957, this program then became part of FKIP Universitas Airlangga (Unair) in January 1962. With the existence of Udayana University (Unud) in Bali, the status of FKIP Unair was then integrated with Unud in Bali in FKIP Unud in August 1962. However, in 1963 in line with the Indonesian government’s policy through the Republic of Indonesia Presidential Decree No. 1 of 1963, the status of FKIP Unud was then integrated into IKIP Malang to become IKIP Malang Singaraja Branch with a special rector. At this time, the Social Sciences Education Department was formed as the forerunner of FIS with two study programs, namely: Economics/Cooperatives and Civics/Law.
In the course of its history, with the addition of the Law Department in the Faculty of Social Sciences (FHIS), in 2015 the Faculty of Social Sciences was designated as the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (FHIS) with seven departments, namely S1 PPKn, S1 P. History, S1 P. Geography, S1 P. Sociology, Bachelor of Laws, Diploma of Libraries, and Diploma of Survey and Mapping.
