Singaraja-Higher Education is an independent institution that is a place for the education of intellectuals. By the contents of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely, research and service education. It can also be said that universities are a miniature democratic country. In the midst of this, higher education not only prepares the future for the younger generation but also has a strategic role in strengthening the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). This was conveyed by the Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Administration, Finance, and Human Resources at Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan as a resource person in a webinar held by the Undiksha Department of Law and Citizenship, on Thursday (1/10/2020).
As further explained, the Republic of Indonesia is a country known as the archipelago, which means an archipelago consisting of thousands of islands stretching from Sabang to Merauke, and inhabited by hundreds of millions of people. The Republic of Indonesia is also known as a country that has a diversity of different cultures, races, ethnicities, and religions so that it is reflected in one bond of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”. The heterogeneous characteristics and character of society, coupled with social and political influences, do not rule out the possibility of divisions and differences of opinion or views, which in the end will cause the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia to shake. “From this, as the nation’s next generation, the campus community must be able to become a bulwark to defend and maintain the integrity of the country. Intellectual groups inevitably have to facilitate all kinds of shortcomings through social empowerment. “The responsibility of an intellectual to apply his capacity is very important,” emphasized Lasmawan.
According to this academic from Kintamani, Bangli Regency, there are several ways that the campus community can maintain the existence of the Republic of Indonesia. First, rejecting and not providing space for the entry of all forms of radical ideas or attempts at provocation into the campus environment which could threaten the diversity and integrity of the Republic of Indonesia. Second, provide full support to the government and the TNI-Polri not to hesitate in taking firm action against all forms of speech and actions that disturb: unity and brotherhood, the Republic of Indonesia, Bineka Tunggal Ika, as well as those that are not by Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. Third, support The National Police is to take firm legal action against people or groups who in any way try to divide the Indonesian nation.
Apart from that, the campus community can also encourage all elements of society to unite to provide support to the authorities in fighting certain parties who are trying to divide the nation. “And then the campus can recommend to the government that materials regarding Pancasila and national insight be included in the curriculum in schools and campuses. To regenerate the spirit of nationalism and love for the country. “More than that, it can also provide an understanding of the ethics of national and state life as well as the formation of bodies from central to regional levels that are capable of carrying out efforts to foster and develop the Indonesian nation,” he said.
From this view, Lasmawan clearly and emphatically illustrates that the existence of a campus as a higher education institution cannot be underestimated, namely that it not only produces an intellectual generation, but also becomes a “home” for concepts thoughts, and other creative ideas to protect the Republic of Indonesia.
