SINGARAJA – 1 October 2023 | Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) uses the Independent Student Exchange (PPM) as a momentum to foster diversity and tolerance by exploring several religious places of worship. The students, who come from Sabang to Merauke, are in the process of understanding that differences are inevitable. One of them was a recent visit to the Great Jami Mosque in Buleleng by Prof. Dr. Dewa Gede Sudika Mangku, S.H., LL.M.
The Great Jami Mosque is a place of worship that was founded in 1846 AD by the King of Buleleng A.A. Ngurah Ketut Jelantik Polong, a son of A.A. Panji Sakti. At that time, the King of Buleleng A.A. Ngurah Ketut Jelantik Polong provided a green carved wooden door at the mosque gate as a reminder that the mosque was first built. The Great Jami Mosque is a witness to the beauty of religious tolerance in Bali. On the occasion of this visit, students were invited to explore every inch of the Great Jami Mosque.
Even though they come from different beliefs, the enthusiasm of the study group is quite high and they seem to respect every existing culture. Lalu Ibrahim, as the guide for this visit, expressed his great pleasure and expressed his appreciation for efforts to foster tolerance through visits to various places of worship in Buleleng. Every student can study the history of the Jami Mosque without religious restrictions. “The study group was very enthusiastic and this activity was very useful for fostering an understanding of tolerance and a real sense of appreciation for culture,” said Lalu Ibrahim.
Apart from exploring the entire mosque, students also had the opportunity to hear sharing regarding the history and meaning of the Koran. They also have the opportunity to ask the guide directly about various things related to the visiting location. As one of the oldest mosques in Bali, the Grand Jami Mosque has undergone several renovations to make it even more comfortable to visit.
