Singaraja– Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (FHIS) Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) held an International Conference, on Friday (8/11/2019). The event which took place at the Grand Palace Sanur, Denpasar presented three speakers, namely Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd., from Undiksha, Prof. Dr. Peter G. Waterworth from Deakin University, Australia, and Prof. Dr. A. Mohaimin Ayus from UNNISA-Brunei Darussalam. The three of them presented material related to social sciences and law.
Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Dewa Gede Sudika Mangku, S.H., LL.M., explained that this was the first conference attended by dozens of academics, both from Undiksha and other universities in Indonesia. This conference was not only filled with material presentations from three keynote speakers, namely about harmonious leadership and community literacy from a social science perspective, social revolution and legal discourse, and journal writing but there were also parallel sessions.
Through this conference, it is hoped that participants’ understanding, especially regarding social sciences and law, will increase. Apart from that, it can also be implemented for scientific development. “We certainly hope that this conference can have an impact on the development of science,” he said.
Dean of FHIS Undiksha, Prof. Dr. Sukadi said this conference was a strategy to explore ideas regarding social values which are very important for building character, especially in an era with the very rapid development of information technology. It was emphasized that technology must be used appropriately so that it does not erode societal values
”We use technology in communicating with other people. But don’t forget the values that are very important for building our character. “Don’t let us be completely controlled by technology,” he stressed.
According to academics from Payangan, Ganyar, harmonious and humanistic relationships are also an absolute must to be implemented in society. Likewise with the values of Pancasila. “This humanist relationship must continue to be implemented, even though in communication there is the development of information technology. Through this seminar, social sciences can follow the revolution in information technology development, so that technology and social education can go hand in hand. “Don’t let us be colonized by technology,” he added.
Resource person, Prof. Lasmawan, who presented material on harmonious leadership and community literacy from a social science perspective, said that until now, social studies education was still considered a secondary subject. If you look closely, its role is very strategic for education, training, and accustoming students to be good and improve their country. “We have been oriented towards how to make students understand and then speak the language, but have forgotten about their level, society, and how they design that society with overall values. “This is what is called harmony,” he said.
Through this conference, he hopes that there will be thoughts or input from participants who will be able to make social studies education a major and important space for educational development. “On this occasion, I would like to invite participants. How do we interpret education, to make every citizen understand and be aware of their existence and position in the state? “Especially when we can develop values and rely on harmonious leadership,” he concluded.
