Singaraja- Coinciding with the commemoration of Heroes’ Day, Tuesday (10/11/2020), the Undiksha Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (FHIS) held the International Conference on Law, Social Sciences and Education (ICLSSE). This conference, which is in its second year, is part of a series of implementations of the 2020 HISPISI Communication Forum which carries the theme “Entering the New Normal Society”.
This activity was opened by the Dean of FHIS, Prof. Dr. Sukadi, M.Pd., M.Ed. He said that the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the presence of the new normal era of society had triggered changes in people’s attitudes and behavior. It cannot be denied that many social problems arise from social, political, cultural, economic, legal, and educational perspectives. “That’s why the webinar aims to discuss and examine what experts or practitioners in the social sciences, law, and social education can participate in developing society into this new era,” he said.
This international seminar presents Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan as keynote speaker. He is the Deputy Chancellor II of Undiksha and also the General Chair of the Forum of Deputy/Vice Chancellors II of State Universities in Indonesia. Apart from that, there were also three speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Warsono, M.S., from Surabaya State University, Indonesia; Nico Irawan, S.S., M.Pd, from International College of Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, Thailand; and Prof. Madya Dr. Vishalache Balakrishnan from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia.
Keynote speaker, I Wayan Lasmawan said that the Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on various sectors of people’s lives, starting from the individual side to the social, cultural, economic, political, and legal levels. One of these changes occurs in human interaction patterns, such as ways of thinking, communicating, and behaving. According to him, it is time for social science to emerge as an answer to overcome this reality. “The study of social studies education is humans themselves. How he lives in society and how he lives to make this society better. “Whatever problems are faced by every human being in this world, once he understands and understands what social studies education is and what the logic is taught in social studies education, no matter how serious the problem is, it will pass,” he said.
This statement shows social science as an autonomous and synthetic discipline. Because with a scalpel attached to it, social science has anticipated early life problems to make society more critical, innovative, and wise, and always prioritizes the human dimension in all movements of thought, attitudes, behavior, and hopes. future. Social sciences have a reliable role as a vehicle for developing culture and human character so that in the future they will become citizens with strong and resilient character in global challenges and facing the Covid-19 pandemic. “But the problem now is that we tend to ignore the logic and hypotheses of education. IPS is considered less important. “But when problems arise and we are faced with a problem, then we realize that social studies education is important,” he said. Due to this, it is hoped that social studies education will receive increasingly serious attention from all parties, especially in the world of education.
On another occasion, the Chair of the Committee, Dr. Dewa Gede Sudika Mangku, S.H., LL.M stated that this international seminar was the second time in a series of HISPISI 2020 activities, for the first time Undiksha, especially FHIS, was appointed to host HISPISI communications. (rls)
