The public lecture was also attended by representatives of lecturers and students from the Department of Law.
The public lecture was held as a form of providing understanding to students of the Department of Law regarding humanitarian law or international law of war. Students are given the understanding that resolving international disputes or disputes must be done by peaceful means such as negotiation, investigation, mediation, conciliation, arbitration, court, handing it over to regional organizations or bodies, or other peaceful resolution methods they choose as required. which is confirmed in the UN Charter. If a peaceful resolution cannot be realized, then the dispute can be resolved through violence, namely war.
International humanitarian law or the law of war applies in armed conflicts and has the aim of regulating hostilities and protecting victims of armed conflicts. International humanitarian law applies to all types of armed conflict, whether legitimate or not, and must be respected by all parties to a conflict. International humanitarian law is not only intended for states and parties to a conflict but must also be respected by individuals. States are obliged to respect norms, take action against all violations, and prosecute perpetrators of serious violations themselves, especially war crimes, or extradite these perpetrators.
