Corruption in Indonesia is becoming increasingly worrying day by day. It’s like an addiction, the perpetrators never give up on continuing to carry out the prohibited acts. After the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) succeeded in carrying out a sting operation (OTT) on members of Commission VI DPR RI regarding the import of garlic. The DPR RI member is suspected of receiving a fee of 2 billion. Not a few weeks later, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) again succeeded in capturing prosecutors and State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in Yogyakarta via OTT.
The prosecutors arrested in the KPK’s OTT operation served on the Government and Regional Development Guard and Security Team (TP4D). TP4D is a team formed by the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia based on the Decree of the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia Number: KEP-152/A/JA/10/2015 dated 01 October 2015. TP4D has the task and function of guarding, securing, and supporting the success of government and development through preventative and persuasive efforts at both central and regional levels according to their respective assigned jurisdictions.
TP4D is expected to be able to carry out law enforcement and prevention regarding the development process in the region, however, in the field, there are still irregularities that occur. This incident seems to reflect that corruption in this country is still widespread. This has tarnished the prosecutor’s office and can reduce the level of public trust in these law enforcement institutions. Whereas those who should uphold law and justice do the opposite.
It is hoped that the OTT operations that have been carried out several times by the Corruption Eradication Committee will be able to prevent law enforcement institutions and state officials from committing corruption and provide a deterrent effect to anyone who commits corruption. But this does not make corruption disappear some still want to dabble in corruption.
Supervision of law enforcement institutions must be increased while reviewing the presence of TP4D in the regions. Don’t let the presence of TP4D become a tool for carrying out corrupt practices. The incident in Yogyakarta gave a signal to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to continue investigating this case until it was resolved. To be an intellectual actor in this case.
While the legal process is ongoing, it is time for the Prosecutor’s Office to carry out reforms for better improvements and to be free from corrupt practices. This must be implemented to restore the image of the Prosecutor’s Office in the eyes of the Indonesian people. If proven guilty of committing corrupt practices, the Service must provide firm witnesses to anyone who violates the law and this is of course what the public expects.
The presence of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is truly expected to continue to guard against criminal acts of corruption that are rampant in this country. In line with this, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has the same commitment as the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) to continue to eradicate corruption in Indonesia from its roots. Of course, this statement must be followed by other law enforcement institutions to have the same mission and vision as President Joko Widodo in terms of preventing and eradicating corruption.
The KPK must take this momentum to continue eradicating corruption so that it can reduce the level of corrupt behavior in Indonesia and be able to improve the ranking of the most corrupt countries in the world. We hope that the OTT incident in Yogyakarta will not happen again in other areas and will be the last.
